The Seven Mile Bridge is a famous bridge in the Florida Keys, in Monroe County, Florida, United States. It connects Knight's Key (part of the city of Marathon, Florida) in the Middle Keys to Little Duck Key in the Lower Keys. Among the longest bridges in existence when it was built, it is one of the many bridges on US 1 in the Keys, where the road is called the Overseas Highway. There are two bridges in this location. The older bridge, originally known as the Knights Key-Pigeon Key-Moser Channel-Pacet Channel Bridge, was constructed from 1909-1912 under the direction of Henry Flagler as part of the Florida East Coast Railway's Key West Extension, also known as the Overseas Railroad.

Amazing Cloudlands of Dubai

Dubai is a busy city. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is continuously moving and expanding sideways and upwards, but in these photographs it appears calm and at peace as the morning fog engulfs even the
tallest skyscrapers.
Shot from the 85th floor of the Princess Tower in the Dubai Marina, these stunning images capture rare moments of tranquility.
The colorful photographs give a different impression of the UAE capital dubbed the 'City of Gold'.
German photographer Sebastian Opitz captured the magnificent urban landscape by defying the Princess Tower’s dizzying heights and early mornings.
Sebastian, 34, said: ‘During the foggy season I check the weather conditions every night and if it looks promising I will make sure to be on top of a tower around by 4am.
‘By 9am the fog will have evaporated so rising early is crucial. It takes a lot of dedication and a good portion of luck to take such pictures.
‘It is so uplifting to be up there during these weather conditions and being able to capture the moment with your camera after weeks of waiting for the right conditions is more than satisfying.

The Rare Birth of Weedy Sea Dragon Babies

Credit: SeaWorld Orlando
Talk about a good dad! The male weedy sea dragon will carry eggs until they hatch.

It's a birth for the books!
A weedy sea dragon father has hatched his first babies at SeaWorld Orlando. Yep, you read that right — we said his.
Male weedy sea dragons, which are found in tropical coastal waters off Australia, are the ones in charge of bearing young, just like the closely related sea horse.
According to SeaWorld, here's how it works: "The female deposits the eggs onto a spongy patch found on the underside of the male’s tail. The eggs are fertilized during this transfer and remain on their father for the next five to nine weeks. Dad is responsible for incubation and care of the eggs until they reach full term."

 Truly Unique Aquarium Feat
This birth marks the first time that weedy sea dragon eggs have successfully hatched at SeaWorld. In fact, only three other aquariums in the U.S. have successfully bred the protected species, which has experienced a dramatic population drop due to human invasion and pollution.
And these babies are just the beginning: The female laid close to 100 eggs in June, which will hatch over the next couple of weeks.Visitors can get a glimpse of the baby sea dragons within SeaWorld Orlando's Manta exhibit. (via)

Resembling a dragon's tail, remnants of a solar filament strain to escape the sun's gravity in an image released this week by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory.
Most of the electrically charged gas, imaged in extreme ultraviolet light, was unsuccessful in its escape attempt and fell back into the sun.
Filaments form when magnetic field lines push out of the sun in loops, holding dense gas above the surface of the sun. (Read about a huge solar filament that erupted in August 2012.)

Inca Girl Frozen For 500 Years Goes On Display

September 11, 2007—The mummy of an ancient Inca girl sits literally frozen in sleep at a museum in Argentina. The mummy, called La Doncella or The Maiden, is that of a teenage girl who died more than 500 years ago in a ritual sacrifice in the Andes Mountains. The girl and two other children were left on a mountaintop to succumb to the cold as offerings to the gods, according to the archaeologists who found the mummified remains in Argentina in 1999. National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Johan Reinhard, who co-led the expedition, described the discovery at the time as "the best preserved of any mummy I've seen." (National Geographic News is a division of the National Geographic Society.) The High Country Archaeological Museum in Salta, Argentina, unveiled La Doncella, the oldest of the three victims, for its first public viewing on September 6. The museum is displaying the mummy in a refrigerated, low-oxygen environment to reproduce the high-altitude conditions that allowed for its remarkable, natural preservation. (via)
